Unfortunately our school has no discretionary funds for this type of purchase, but a classroom set of graphing classrooms would be extremely beneficial to the calculus students. I would like to raise money to buy 30 graphing calculators, which would then be carefully marked and monitored for classroom use. I teach two calculus classes this year, totaling about 55 students that would benefit from these calculators. They are essential to the calculus class. They might also come in handy on occasion in the other classes I teach like Trigonometry/Math Analysis. The calculators will be treated nicely (at threat of grade reductions) so that they will also be used by many future students in the years to come.
The situation right now is that a few students have graphing calculators, but most don't. Those that do are often willing to share in class (though once I actually had a parent complain about her son having to share his calculator), but it is quite impractical and inefficient. It does not make sense to ask the students to invest in their own calculators, as many won't need them beyond this class. Plus, graphing calculators are out of the budget for many of these students' families. Therefore, a classroom set really makes the most sense.
By buying a tile, you can be part of the equation to bring success to our math classes. Thank you!
