"Three Bagel Sunday" is currently in post-production in San Francisco and NYC.

Three Bagel Sunday is a meditative, first-person documentary account of Lee Gorewitz's life inside the Traditions Alzheimer's & Dementia Care Unit of the Reutlinger Community for Jewish Living in Danville, California.  Disassociated from many of the scheduled activities, Lee embarks, day after day, on ritualistic, odyssey-like wanderings through her enclosed boundaries. She socializes--sometimes peacefully, sometimes combatively--with the nineteen other residents of her Unit, along with the doctors, nurses, caregivers, and staffHer speech, which often takes the form of rapid-fire memory cycles amid digressive and discombobulated soliloquies, is distinct even among Alzheimer’s patients.

Dr. Janice L. Corran, Reutlinger's Executive Director, describes Three Bagel Sunday as “a groundbreaking, musical docudrama about Alzheimer’s disease.”

The innovative style of the film and the choice of its socially significant subject matter are borne out of Writer-Director-Producer Kirschenbaum’s experience as an impassioned advocate for the elderly. Leading up to production Kirschenbaum spent six months interacting with the residents of the Alzheimer's & Dementia Unit, and acclimating himself with their rhythm and pace. The goal: to boldly confront the complexities of the human mind and the devastating effects of the disease. "In our effort to express the inner pulse of Alzheimer's, the film fuses Lee Gorewitz's speech pattern and memory loss cycles with an original soundtrack," said Kirschenbaum.

At a time when survival in the Arts is often reliant on donations from the private sector, your participation and support will enable viewers, young and old alike, to engage with the themes of aging and illness in ways that recognize the vulnerability of the mind while simultaneously appreciating the resiliency of the spirit.

We are seeking $2,500 to help us complete post-production.  We believe that there is an immensely rich world contained with an Alzheimer's facility, and with your support we intend to portray that world with the humanity that it demands and deserves.

Many thanks in advance.

Scott Kirschenbaum, Director/Producer

It's like driving a car at night. You never see further than your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.
