Please help support our fundraising efforts for the Glow Scholars pictured from Summit Prep Academy in Redwood City, CA! Glow Foundation (http://www.glowfoundation.org) and its volunteers provide support for these college-ready students to overcome the financial barriers that high potential, low-income students face in attending and graduating from college.
With help from co-workers and friends at Oracle (Tess, Sol, Anand, and Ben) and Google (Tom), Glow is able to provide the financial foundation for dozens of Summit students to better understand how they can afford college. Moreover, in April 2009, we will be selecting and providing scholarships to outstanding students who complete the program and still have gap in their financing to help them achieve their dream of a college education.
Many of the students in this picture will be the first in their family to attend college. While all of them have the grades and test scores to attend college, many simply will not be able to afford college without assistance from people like you.
Anything you can give is very helpful!

More information about Glow: The Glow Foundation was founded in 2006 to address the financial barriers that high potential, low income students face in attending and completing college. Glow’s vision is that all qualified, highly motivated students, regardless of their income level, should be able to afford and graduate from college and reach their greatest potential. Glow’s mission is to provide financial education, mentoring, and “unmet need” scholarships to high potential, college-ready students from under-resourced communities.
By using college financing, the first major financial event for most students, as a platform for financial education, Glow not only helps low income students get access to college education, but also provides students with the critical financial literacy and planning skills that will help them succeed beyond their schools years.
Since being founded in 2006, Glow Foundation has provided financial education classes to over 350 students and provided college scholarships to over 40 students. This year, our goal is to provide financial education to 200+ students and scholarships to 40 students.
More about our students: Glow focuses on high potential, college-ready high school students from under-resourced communities who are at risk of attending college due to financial barriers. Over 80% of Glow’s students are from low income families, qualifying for federally subsidized lunch program, and will be the first in their family to attend college. Nearly 100% come from ethnic backgrounds historically under-represented in higher education (45% Hispanic, 22% Asian, 22% African, and 9% Bi-racial).
More about our partnership approach: We strive to achieve the maximum impact, efficiency, and scale through effective partnerships. In FY2009, Glow is working with twelve student partner organization sites around the Bay Area.
