Some of us are here, in China teaching, some are here doing work to care for small babies and children who have been orphaned. Some of these children need surgery, have disabilities which will prevent the best possible opportunities for their adoptions. Some of the people who are working to help these children need money to pay for the surgeries and to keep the children in caring environments. Well, those of us who areteaching thought it would be a good idea to take a road trip this summer on our motorcycles through China. Then we thought, well, why not do something more then just take a trip.....maybe we could do something to help our friends help these children. So that is what we are trying to do. One organization which is doing this work is called Starfish Children's Services, run and operated by a woman named Amanda de Lange. She opened this home on her own initiative and has been doing alot of work...you can find her at chinesestarfish.blogspot.com....
I am teaching to University students, and in the next term, hope to get them involved with this....I would like them to see what giving and helping others can do. I would like them to see that sometimes when we ask for help....people will give.
If you are in China and would like to donate, be a corporate sponsor or participate in the ride please contact me, or visit www.monkeyspeaks.com for further information. We will begin the official membership to the ride beginning mid-March, with a newsletter and further info to participate. The ride is tentatively planned to begin the first week in July 2009.
Starfish Foster Home
Xian China
At Starfish, we have taken care of 67 children to date, arranged almost 50 surgeries and had a whopping 18 international adoptions, so our little starfishes live all over the globe: the US (latest adoptions to Kentucky and New Jersey), Netherlands, Norway and Spain. Two children are matched at the moment waiting for their families. We currently have 30 babies under the age of 3 1/2 at two foster homes. We just open a new cleft palate house on February 5, 2009.
