Favorite Family and Friends,
Remember what it was like to be a poor, struggling college student? Whilst kicking butt in school, we’re also juggling a social life and playing the best game ever: Ultimate Frisbee. This year our team has a lot of talent and potential. In order to harness that talent we need to get as much practice against other teams as possible which means traveling to as many tournaments as possible.
This school year there are potentially 12 tournaments our team is interested in going to- all of which require us to pay a tournament fee in addition to hotels, gas and food. Our biggest fundraising challenge will be to raise the money to attend a tournament in Vegas this coming February. Many of the girls got the opportunity to go last year and they had an absolute blast! There is competition from all over the Midwest and Saturday night we get to go explore the strip downtown. The total cost for this trip is around 10k and this year’s budget cuts have left us with VERY limited funds. Honestly, we’re pretty broke.
That’s why we decided, as a team, to ask the wonderful people in our lives if they would mind giving us some financial help. Don’t worry- this isn’t our only fundraising attempt! Currently we are doing a dinner night at Bateman’s in Towson on November 9th, working Raven’s games throughout November and December, selling both t-shirts and bumper stickers, and participating in a Yankee Candles Fundraiser in the upcoming months. We are also in the process of researching more fundraising ideas and doing everything in our power to raise the money to reach our goals.
Through Ultimate we’ve learned time-management, organizational, and leadership skills. In addition, we have also been able to avoid that dreadful freshman fifteen (or for some of us, sophomore thirty, junior forty-five or senior sixty…. Ok, so maybe that’s exaggerating a bit.) Ultimate does however keep us in incredible shape, which in turn helps us to stay healthy (Take that swine flu!). Most importantly though, we have developed lasting relationships with the great girls on our team and made many memories that will stick with us a lifetime. Just ask any of the girls on the team and I’m sure they can provide you with an ultimate story that will give you a laugh!
So, if you could spare some money to help a talented team, we’d forever be grateful! The money donated will go towards gas, hotels, flight costs, and tournament fees that have been hit the hardest with budget cuts.
