Markus Traylor and I created a bond from the first day that I met him. His Mother and I both have Sickle Cell Anemia Disease and we met in the hospital in 1996. From that day forward, we were sisters. There was something about Markus' spirit that drew me to him and he even gave me a name that only he could use. I became his Me Mommy. Back then, he had big dreams and although he had struggles due to his mother's illness you could see potential all over him. Markus was a shy kid, but he has blossomed into a fabulous young man who is a leader in every way. He has mentored countless young men who needed positive male role models. He has made himself available whenever he was called upon. He already posesses the qualities that the legendary Morehouse Man is known for.
Markus' dream of becoming a Morehouse Man began many years before he even knew that it could possibly happen. We lived in Dallas, TX and his mother is the single parent of two With her failing health and inability to continue working, there was no way that his mother was going to be able to afford such a prestigious institution of higher learning. Besides that, she was not going to allow her baby boy to go to college in another state. Markus and his sister had an opportunity to tour Morehouse when he was still a youngster and as a momento they took a picture in front of the school's sign. Little did anybody know that several years later he and sister would return to that very spot and take another picture. This time he was officially a freshman at Morehouse College.
A lot went into the plan that allowed his destiny to be fulfilled and I know that this is just a hurdle at the end of a very long race. Although this situation has been a hard fight to face, I believe that God will touch the heart of many to help Markus finish this phase of his life. He did what it took to become accepted and he did what it took to remain, now I'm asking you to do what it takes to help him turn his dream into a reality.
Through this campaign, it is my goal to raise every dime that Markus needs to finish school at the college of his dreams. All you have to do is purchase tiles. Tiles are the little blocks that are on the grid covering his picture. Each tile represents $10, please know that every tile purchased is making a difference. Buying tiles is also an opportunity for you to advertise your business, group affiliations and/or projects. I pray that God will bless each and every one of you who gives. Please tell others and help me to spread the word.
